The fluids people: meet our new Product Line Director, Cleansorb, David Knox

When esteemed Co-Founder and Director of Cleansorb, Ian McKay, announced his well-deserved retirement, we knew we had to find the very best fluids expert to step into his shoes to continue the development of Cleansorb’s innovative reservoir chemistry and its application to solve customer clean-up and stimulation challenges. Luckily, we knew exactly the right man for the job.

Meet new Product Line Director, Cleansorb, David Knox

Born and raised in Aberdeen around the time the first major oilfield discoveries in the UK North Sea were transforming his home town into a major new frontier for oil and gas development – David Knox maintains the mud business is more a vocation than a job.

Following a career spanning spells at Baker Hughes Inteq, Tetra Technologies, M-I SWACO, BP and beyond – you could say David has come full circle. He actually started his career at former Newpark and Milchem joint venture, Milpark. And we’re extremely happy to have him back.

Especially given his extensive experience developing solutions such as wellbore strengthening techniques for heavily depleted reservoirs, defining and engineering of ‘flat rheology’ fluids for deepwater drilling, and HPHT gravel pack fluid design. Not to mention the invaluable 8 years he spent honing his eye for engineering excellence as Global Fluids Manager for BP – a role that equipped him well for anticipating and overcoming some of the most difficult formation damage challenges around the world.

Protecting reservoirs and optimizing performance – worldwide

In his new role, David will be continuing our work to tackle the challenge of protecting reservoirs from drilling-related damage while optimizing well performance. No matter where our customers’ businesses take them next.

With projects lined up everywhere from Saudi Arabia and offshore GoM to West Africa and the UK and Norwegian North Sea sectors – David’s ambitions aren’t limited by geography. With the support of the wider Newpark team discovering potential opportunities for Cleansorb chemistry on a weekly basis, he can expect more and more countries to be added to the list as the year goes on.
